Darryl Dymock

I am a Senior Lecturer in Adult Education at the University of New England, NSW, where I have worked for about twenty years. Prior to taking up my present teaching position around five years ago, I worked for a long spell in UNE Continuing Education. My teaching and research are in the areas of adult learning and teaching, particulary in distance education, adult literacy and basic education, and adult education history.

The University of New Englandwas established in 1954 and quickly established itself in the distance education field, as well as teaching 'internally', in the dual-mode approach commonly known as the New England Model. Today it has about 10,000 students in award courses through distance education, more than one-third of them at postgraduate level. About another 5000 are studying on campus. There are four faculties: i) Arts, ii) Education, Health and Professional Studies, iii) Economics, Business and Law, iv) Sciences.

I am a member of the University's Teaching and Learning Advisory Committee and its External Programs Board. I am representing UNE at the 'Transforming' conference following interest expressed to our Academic Development Unit by the Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic).

In addition to conference issues, I would be interested in discussing possible joint arrangements to offer award courses with NZ institutions, or to discuss our Masters, PhD or new EdD programs by distance education.

On a personal note, I am hoping for better weather in Christchurch than when the All Blacks beat Australia in Auckland recently where the horizontal rain was clearly a factor that affected the Wallabies' performance!
