Cathy Quiroz Moore

Cathy is a native of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Her family immigrated to the United States when she was a young child. She is a native speaker of both Spanish and English. She received a Bachelor of Arts in French Language and Literature in 1986 from North Carolina State University. In addition, she completed the Teacher Certification program and is currently a certified teacher for grades 9-12 in the areas of French, Spanish, and Math. She has taught for nine years at the high school level. She began her career as a French teacher in 1986 at Northern Nash High School in the Nash County School System. In her two years there, she taught levels I, II, and III of French. In 1988, she began teaching at Enloe High School in Wake County. At Enloe, she taught all levels of French, including AP French Language and AP French Literature, as well as Spanish I. She served in several other capacities at Enloe, including Foreign Language Department Chair, Secretary of the SBII Steering Committee, and Varsity Volleyball coach. She is currently a full-time graduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she is pursuing a Masters in School Administration as a recipient of the Principal Fellows Program Scholarship.

Professional Activities

Cathy has been a member of the Foreign Language Association of North Carolina since 1986. She has presented and presided at several sessions of FLANC in the last ten years. She is also a member of the American Association of Teachers of French, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the Southern Conference on Language Teaching, and the Wake County Foreign Language Collaborative. She has presented at various sessions in the Collaborative, including a workshop presentation of the use of technology in the foreign language classroom. She has participated in training for and received certification as a Mentor Teacher and has supervised several student teachers from UNC-Chapel Hill and N.C. State University, as well as several short-term interns in French and Spanish. As a teacher in Wake County she taught a workshop for teachers on methods, material, and strategies for the Advanced Placement course in French Language and French Literature. In addition, she co-authored a guide for teaching the AP courses in language and literature. In her capacity as department chair at Enloe High School, she participated in writing grant proposals for and implementing those received in the Magnet Schools Assistance Program.

Career Goals

Upon completion of the program, it is her desire to obtain a position in administration at the high school level. She would like to work in a setting that is forward-thinking and which allows the flexibility needed to address issues at the school level and in education in general. She is interested in working at a school that is seeking ways to implement a wide range of technology into its progams.
