for Children. Berit is Cochran Interactive's Online Librarian. Each site
has been carefully selected, reviewed and given a rating out of 5.
- CEO Forum.
The CEO Forum on Education and Technology issues annual reports on the nation's progress
on integrating technology into education.
- CRISTAL-Ed.
CRISTAL-Ed - Coalition on Reinventing Information Science, Technology
and Library Education, is a collaborative project of the School of
Information at the University of Michigan with the support of the W.K.
Kellogg Foundation HRISM initiative. This site offers discussion groups
and resources on immerging issues about integrating technology in higher
education.
- Classroom
Connect. Classroom Connect is a publisher of a
range of products that help K-12 educators make the most of the Internet
in their classrooms. Connecting with other "wired" educators is now as
simple as pointing and clicking with your mouse. Classroom Connect's
Teacher Contact Database puts you in touch with more than 2,500 K-12
staffers from around the world to complete keypal exchanges, hands-on
projects, and more.
- Cristal-Ed. To garner a wide range of opinions, exchange ideas,
and learn from others involved in comparable
activities, the School of Information began a
moderated electronic mail discussion group. This
new CRISTAL-ED discussion focused on the vision of
the new information and library studies (ILS)
education, and then moved to targeting planning,
prototyping, and implementing a new core curricula
for such education. The Crital-Ed site documents workshops, discussion
groups, and other resouces dealing with these issues.

Deliberaions is an online magazine that has been designed to function
as a resource
for Educational Developers, Librarians and Academic Staff, with material
arranged by Discipline and by Educational Issue, and as a forum for
readers to discuss and develop ideas, and identify
resources that will aid their

Distance learning, or distance education, has become a "hot item" with
the advent
of the internet and the web, but distance learning, by most definitions,
has been
around a long, long time. Although there has been much debate on exactly
what
the definition of distance learning is, most definitions include the
aspect of separation between learner and teacher in space and/or time.
This web
resource offers an overview of distance learning and offers links to
many distance learning sites.

The goal of HT&T 1996 (sponsored by The Education Alliance at Brown, and
Brown's Scholarly Technology Group) is to bring together a

computer-mediated communication, and the

of Resources for Historians. This Index is maintained by the Department
of History of the University of Kansas. It consists of a single large file

Internet Schoolhouse. Diann Boehm's site is designed to help teachers
utilize the vast power of the Internet in an educational setting and to give a
feel for how lesson plans can be used in conjunction with the World Wide Web.

archiving and "post-hoc" peer review.

Marty Levine, a professor of Education at California State University at
Northridge, has compiled a page of pointers to many lesson plans and
resources for social studies teachers. It is a resource that points
to lesson plans and teaching strategies for social studies, current
events sites, relevant Usenet newsgroups, and other government, history,
and Latino related sites. The heart of the site is the lesson plan
pointers page, with connections to hundreds of lesson plans in all areas
and K-12 grade groupings.

- SOFWeb's Improving
student learning through learning technologies Page. SOFWeb is an Internet service
created by the Directorate of School Education in Victoria, Australia in October 1995 as
part of Classrooms of the Future. It uses the World Wide Web to provide a directory of
schools-related information and activities accessible through the Internet.
- Institute for the Transfer of
Technology to Education. ITTE is a program of the National School Boards
Association. ITTE works actively with school districts across North America that
are exploring creative ways to teach and learn with technology.
- The Sloan Center for
Asynchronous Learning Environments (SCALE). SCALE was established in March
1995 with a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. SCALE faculty are participating
in a three-year project of restructuring undergraduate courses to integrate various
techniques associated with asynchronous learning networks (ALN). The goals of this
project are to create efficiencies in the educational process (cost, time, faculty
productivity), to increase student retention, and to decrease time-to-degree.

- The TeleLeraning
Research Network.
TeleLearning is the use of multimedia learning
environments based on powerful desktop computers linked by the
information highway. The principal goal is to develop telelearning as an
environment that will provide students with access to learning
experiences not available or achievable in conventional classrooms. To
achieve this goal, the Network will bring together computer-supported
environments, artificial intelligence, high-performance networks,
multimedia, and collaborative tools to form coherent systems.

link student errors to a prepared set of grammar queries and instructor
comments.
- World
Bank Seminar on Educational Technology (October 1996). This TechNet online Think
Tank discussion conference focused on the role technology plays in providing solutions to
