What-Lies Ahead: Countdown to the 21st Century is the fifth in a continuing series of United Way of America environmental scans on the dynamics of United WAY'S business environment throughout the nation.
Like previous editions of What Lies Ahead, this edition summarizes trends and developments under these major categories: social, economic, political, technological, and philanthropic. This new edition also takes a look at two special trends that are particularly important.
The United States enters the final decade of the 20th century in the midst of a profound restructuring of society, institutions, and even individual life-styles. United Way of America's Environmental Scan Committee expects this restructuring to move at an even faster pace during the 1990s. Recognizing the cross impact of the many individual trends, this report has identified nine major ChangeDrivers, or lines along which it is proceeding.
This list of ChangeDrivers represents the Committee's best collective judgment of the key developments likely to affect American society during the l990s.
